Kefalonia tickets cover museum entry, the Ithaca ferry, cave tours, island buses and sea crossings. Find more trip ideas on Greece Tours. The guide below sorts each ticket type, shows where it sells and lists the rules that come with it.
What are Kefalonia tickets, and which ones can you book online?
Kefalonia tickets are passes for entry, ferry and bus travel on the island. Online, GetYourGuide sells a museum entry ticket, a ferry ticket for the Ithaca crossing and cave tour tickets. Local sellers add bus and sea tickets.
GetYourGuide sorts its Kefalonia listings with a category label on each card. The label tells you what the booking covers. Four labels matter for Kefalonia tickets.
- Entry ticket: one venue, here the Korgialenios Library and Museum in Argostoli.
- Transfer: a move between two ports, here the ferry from Sami to Pisaetos.
- Guided tour: a guide, a route and a start time, as on the cave tours.
- Day trip: a full day with a guide, as on the Ithaca bus tours.
Small labels sit beside the category. They read “Free cancellation”, “Pickup available”, “Skip the line”, “Wheelchair accessible” and “Private group”. One more label sets the last moment to buy. The museum card and both Ithaca ferry cards say “Must book at least 10h in advance”.
The cut-off for Kefalonia tickets differs from card to card. “Kefalonia: Jet Boat Island Crossing to Ithaca with Swim Stop” closes 30 minutes before the start. “From Kefalonia: Ithaca Swim Cruise to Hidden Coves & Vathy” closes 1 hour before. “Ithaca Island Full Bus Tour from Kefalonia” closes 7 hours before.
Check the label before you plan the day. These Kefalonia tickets all sell by date, and the calendar on the card lists the dates still open.
This page works through the tickets in order: the Ithaca ferry, museums and caves first. Then come buying, buses, ferry sellers, reduced fares, seasons, weather and venue-only passes. Our Kefalonia guide covers the island and its sights.
Which Kefalonia tickets include the Ithaca ferry?
Two gigs sell the crossing as a ticket. “Kefalonia: Ithaca Private Day Trip with Ferry Tickets” bundles the ferry into a 10-hour private day. “Kefalonia: Explore Ithaca By Ferry From Sami, Kefalonia” sells the ride alone.
The private day trip carries the “Private group” label and takes up to 8 guests. Its card lists a 10-hour length, pickup and free cancellation. The card has two reviews and a five-star score. Among the ferry-linked Kefalonia tickets, it is the one that buys the boat and the day in a single step.
The card text promises villages, panoramic views and beach swims on Ithaca. The ticket in the title is the ferry fare for the crossing. The card does not name the ferry company.
The ferry-only gig uses the “Transfer” label. Its card gives a 30-minute length and names the route from Sami in Kefalonia to Pisaetos in Ithaca. It carries “Skip the line” and “Wheelchair accessible” labels, and the booking closes 10 hours before departure.
Two full-day bus tours fold the ferry into the day. The card for “From Kefalonia: Ithaca Island Full-Day Bus Tour” says to take a ferry from Sami to Ithaca. It lasts 10 hours and holds 168 reviews at 4.5 stars.
“From Kefalonia: Full-Day Bus Tour of Mythical Ithaca Island” lasts 14 hours. Its card says the group travels by ferry from Kefalonia and by bus on Ithaca. Its group size tops out at 15. These Kefalonia tickets suit a traveller who wants a guide for the whole day.
The crossing itself, with its stops and roads, is covered in our Ithaca day trip from Kefalonia guide. This page stays on the Kefalonia tickets themselves.
Which Kefalonia tickets cover museums?
One online gig sells a museum ticket: “Kefalonia: Korgialenios Library & Museum Entry Ticket”, in Argostoli. The card labels it an entry ticket with 1 day of validity and free cancellation. It is the only entry ticket the Kefalonia feed returns.

Among Kefalonia tickets, this card says to book 10 hours ahead and caps a booking at 20 guests. Its text promises rare books, manuscripts and exhibits that trace the island’s past. The card holds no reviews yet, because it is a new listing.
Wikipedia states that the library shares one building with the Korgialenio History and Folklore Museum. The Visit Kefalonia site puts the library on Ilias Zervos Street in the centre of Argostoli. The gig title names the library and the museum together.
The same site lists library hours of Monday to Friday, 9 am to 12 noon. It says the library closes on weekends and afternoons. The date list on the gig card shows weekday dates only, so the calendar fits those hours.
Greeka describes the museum collection. It shows everyday objects, clothes, furniture, manuscripts, tools and utensils from the 16th to the 20th centuries. It also holds photographs of Kefalonia before and after the earthquakes. The permanent collection splits into urban, rural and ecclesiastical art and urban design.
The library holds about 60,000 volumes, according to the Visit Kefalonia site. Its rare rooms are the Harokopou Family hall and the Vallianos Family hall. They hold antique furniture, church icons, family portraits and ecclesiastical items.
Wikipedia places the Archaeological Museum of Argostoli on R. Vergoti Street, across from the Municipal Theater. It says an earthquake damaged that building and that it was demolished in the years after. Construction of a new building started. No online ticket for that museum appears among Kefalonia tickets.
Which Kefalonia tickets cover the caves?
Cave visits come inside tour bookings. Three GetYourGuide tours stop at both Melissani and Drogarati. Their cards show no entry-ticket label, so the booking page is the place to check what each tour covers.
“From Argostoli: Melissani Lake & Drogarati Caves Tour” has the “Guided tour” label and lasts 4 hours. The card lists pickup and free cancellation, and a group size of up to 50. It holds 705 reviews at 4.6 stars, and its text mentions a boat ride on the lake.
“Argostoli: Melissani & Drogarati Cave Tour with Wine Tasting” lasts 5 hours. Its card calls the tour a shore excursion made only for cruise ship passengers. The tour adds a local wine tasting, and it holds 157 reviews at 4.6 stars.
“Kefalonia: Small-Group Tour to Drogarati, Melissani & Beach” lasts 4.5 hours and takes up to 19 guests. Its text adds a swim at Myrtos or Antisamos beach. The card holds 48 reviews at 4.5 stars. Of these Kefalonia tickets, it has the smallest group.
The tours differ on three points: length, group cap and the extra stop. Compare those before you pick among these Kefalonia tickets.
Each cave has its own ticket guide. Our Melissani Cave tickets page covers the lake cave. Our Drogarati Cave tickets page covers the second cave. Rules, hours and sellers sit on those pages.
How do you buy Kefalonia tickets online and at the gate?
Book online through a booking platform or the seller’s own site, then show the ticket at the entrance. The proof differs by seller. It is a tour voucher, an e-mailed PDF file or a code that staff scan.
Booking platforms list Kefalonia tickets with short labels that explain how each one works. The museum entry ticket on GetYourGuide shows a validity of 1 day. A second label on that card names the cut-off for buying it.
The private Ithaca day trip lists a duration of 10 hours, a private group and pickup. It uses the same 10-hour cut-off. The Sami ferry ticket is a 30-minute transfer. It is wheelchair accessible and carries a Skip the line label.
GetYourGuide sorts these Kefalonia tickets by category. The museum listing sits under Entry ticket, and the Sami ferry ticket sits under Transfer. The category tells you what you receive: admission to a building, or a place on a boat.
A cut-off is the last moment you can book. With a 10-hour limit, book your Kefalonia tickets the evening before a morning start.
State sites that sell through the national e-ticket service follow its terms. The service e-mails full-price tickets as a PDF file. Visitors in free-admission categories receive a QR code instead, and a scan at the entrance is enough.
At the checkpoint, the terms ask for the ticket and original identification. They also tell visitors to keep the ticket stub throughout the visit. Tour vouchers and site tickets are separate products, so read the label of each Kefalonia tickets listing before you pay.
Which Kefalonia bus tickets can you buy?
KTEL Kefalonias sells the island’s bus tickets, one operator for the whole network. The company runs 42 interurban buses and 5 city buses. Its website offers online booking on a page titled KtelBus OnLine Ticketing.
KTEL Kefalonias connects Argostoli with the villages of the island. Its main stations stand in Argostoli, Lixouri, Sami, Ithaca and Poros. From these stations, lines run on to Patra and Athens. The company states that it has worked in transport for over 50 years.
Kefalonia tickets for the bus therefore come from one operator. The home page carries the line “Want to book a ticket? Now you can online from our website”. The company’s address is Antoni Tritsi 5 in Argostoli.
The route pages name each line by its stops. Long-distance lines run from Argostoli through Poros and Kyllini to Athens, and from Argostoli through Sami and Patra to Athens. Another line joins Lixouri, Sami, Patra and Athens, and one joins Ithaki, Patra and Athens.
Local lines include Argostoli to Sami, Argostoli to Skala and Argostoli to Poros. A line serves Karavomylos and Melissani, and another links Argostoli, Lassi and the airport. On Ithaca, the company lists a line from Kioni to Vathi.
KTEL Kefalonias sends parcels too and tells senders to contact its agencies about charges. Its tourist guide pages name stops such as Myrtos, Xi, Antisamos, Assos, Fiskardo and Skala. Kefalonia tickets for the bus are separate from any tour, so a line page is the place to start.
Days and times sit on each line page, so check that page before you buy.
Where do Kefalonia ferry tickets sell?
Booking platforms sell Kefalonia ferry tickets online. Kefalonia tickets for the sea also sell at the port, and Ionion Pelagos Lines sells at its offices. Levante Ferries runs the Poros and Sami lines to Kyllini and Patra. Ionion Pelagos Lines runs the Astakos and Zakynthos lines.
The Greeka guide lists the operators by route. Conventional Levante Ferries ships serve Poros from Kyllini and Sami from Patra. A conventional Ionion Pelagos Lines ferry serves the line from Astakos to Sami. Both companies serve the crossing between Sami and Ithaca.
Ferryhopper names Levante Ferries as the only company on the Poros and Kyllini line. It sells that ticket online. It asks passengers to arrive at least 45 minutes before departure. It also applies current offers automatically at checkout. The ferry ticket and the other Kefalonia tickets in this guide come from different sellers.
Greeka says the Ionion Pelagos Lines service from Astakos to Ithaca has no online booking system. You buy at the company’s offices. For the local ferry between Ithaca and Kefalonia, it states that tickets can be bought on the port before departure.
On the Pessada and Zakynthos crossing, Greeka names Ionion Pelagos Lines. It tells readers to contact the company about availability. It lists the boats from Fiskardo to Lefkada as seasonal routes that are not bookable on its page. It points readers to the Fiskardo port station or their accommodation.
Greeka also states that booking ahead is strongly recommended in the high season, from July to mid-September. Buy Kefalonia tickets for the sea early in those weeks.
Who gets reduced or free Kefalonia tickets?
Each seller sets its own list of reduced Kefalonia tickets. Ferry companies, the national ministry and KTEL Kefalonias name children, students, island residents, young EU visitors and disability card holders. The ministry terms ask for proof.
On the line from Poros to Kyllini, Ferryhopper lists discounts of 50 percent or more. They apply to children aged 5 to 10, students at Greek public universities and island residents. Infants and toddlers up to 4 years old travel free.
The ministry page on free admission covers archaeological sites, historical sites, monuments and museums owned by the State. It admits EU citizens up to age 25 free of charge, on presentation of an ID card or passport. Children up to age 18 from non-EU countries enter free with a passport.
Reduced and free Kefalonia tickets at these sites need proof. The e-ticket terms name students, the elderly and the unemployed as examples. Without the right papers, staff do not let the holder in.
If the ID alone is not enough, the terms ask for further supporting documents. The buyer then brings a proof of purchase to the ticket office on the day of the visit. The terms also list set days when the public enters archaeological sites and museums free of charge.
Bus riders find their own list of Kefalonia tickets with a discount. KTEL Kefalonias lists discounts, pet transfer and the company profile under General Information. A notice on the site covers disability discount cards. It says cards validated for the old year stop being accepted on a set date. Holders then need the validation of the new year.
When do Kefalonia tickets for sites and museums run?
State museums in Greece run on two calendars. Winter runs from November to March, from 08:30 to 15:30, and the major museums open from 09:00 to 16:00. Summer runs from April to October with longer hours. Check it before you buy Kefalonia tickets for a state venue.
The Directorate of Archaeological Museums sets the rule. It adds that the last admission is 20 minutes before closing time. The majority of its museums and collections close on Tuesdays. Changes to hours and days are announced on the Ministry of Culture website.
Holidays have their own list. State museums stay closed on 1 January, 25 March and Orthodox Easter Sunday. They also close on the first day of the fifth month, and on 25 and 26 December.
State museums stay open on 6 January, Clean Monday, Orthodox Easter Monday, Holy Spirit Monday, 15 August and 28 October. Hours on Good Friday and Holy Saturday differ.
One Argostoli museum has no Kefalonia tickets to sell right now. The municipal tourism site says the Archaeological Museum of Argostoli is temporarily closed for reconstruction. Wikipedia adds that the damaged building was demolished and a new one was started.
The Fokas-Kosmetatos Foundation runs on a season of its own, so its Kefalonia tickets sell on a short calendar. It receives visitors for six months, ending in October. The Collections open Monday to Friday from 10:00 to 14:00. The Botanical Garden opens daily except Sunday, from 09:00 to 14:00.
The Korgialenios Library sits in the same building as the folklore museum. The municipal site lists it open Monday to Friday, from 9 am until 12 noon. It is closed on weekends and in the afternoon.
Wikipedia says the foundation cut the library to three hours a day after money problems. Hours move, so read the current line before you use Kefalonia tickets.
The municipal site also posted hours for International Museum Day. The Corgialenios museum showed 09:00 to 14:00 and 18:00 to 20:00. The Fokas-Kosmetatos venues showed 09:30 to 13:30. Those lines belong to that one day, so they differ from the regular hours above.
What happens to Kefalonia tickets if the weather or plans change?
Of 68 Kefalonia and Ithaca listings read for this page, 67 carry the Free cancellation label. The one listing without it is the Sami ferry ticket. Weather works differently on a tour and on a ferry, so read the label before you pay for Kefalonia tickets.
The label shows no refund window in the listing frame. Open the cancellation line on the booking form and note the hour before you pay. For tour-based Kefalonia tickets, that line is the rule. A ferry follows a different rule.
One sailing day trip from Agia Efimia to Ithaca prints a weather line. It promises a full refund when bad weather cancels the cruise or when not enough guests book. No other listing read for this page prints a weather line.
Ferry-based Kefalonia tickets fall under European rules. Your Europe states that a cancelled crossing gives you a choice. You take the reimbursement of the ticket within 7 days. Or you take re-routing at no extra cost, under comparable conditions.
Severe weather limits two rights. The same page says you are not entitled to a hotel when severe weather caused the cancellation. It also says you are not entitled to delay compensation when severe weather caused the delay.
A ferry agency, Ferryhopper, describes a weather cancellation in its help centre. You change the ticket to one of equal value, or you ask the operator for a full refund.
The cancellation must be officially confirmed by the operator. A missed trip that the operator never cancelled does not qualify, and refunds are not processed automatically.
Which Kefalonia tickets are sold only at the venue?
No online listing sells entry to the Fokas-Kosmetatos Collections or Botanical Garden. None sells entry to the Sami Archaeological Collection or the Saint Andrew museum. None of the 68 listings read for this page covers them. The municipal tourism site names no online seller for them.
Check what does sell online first. For Kefalonia tickets in the 68 listings, one entry ticket covers an Argostoli museum. One ferry ticket covers the Sami crossing.
The Fokas-Kosmetatos Foundation prints one common ticket for its two venues. Both have an audio tour in Greek and English that lasts about half an hour. The foundation’s own site showed only a verification screen when read for this page. The municipal page is the source for its ticket.
The Sami Archaeological Collection lists opening hours of 08:30 to 15:30 on the municipal Museum Day post. The Ecclesiastical and Byzantine Museum of Saint Andrew lists 08:00 to 14:00 on the same post. Neither line mentions a ticket sale. Check the venue or the municipal tourism site for how these Kefalonia tickets are sold.
What do travellers ask about these Kefalonia tickets?
Travellers ask about booking cut-offs, validity, ship rules, complaints and access. Each answer for these Kefalonia tickets comes from a listing frame or a named official page. Read them before you pay for the first ticket.
How soon before the start must you book?
Cut-off lines run from 10 minutes to 10 hours. Forty of the 68 listings need 10 hours. The jet-boat crossing to Ithaca shows 30 minutes.
How long does the museum ticket stay valid?
The listing carries a validity label of 1 day. As with Kefalonia tickets for a single venue, it works on the date you pick. The listing shows no label for a second visit.
Does the European ship rule cover a day cruise?
Your Europe lists exclusions. Excursion and sightseeing ships are outside the rule. That holds when they have no accommodation, or when the overnight stay is 2 nights or less. Ships that cover less than 500 metres one way are outside it too.
How long do you have to complain about a cancelled ferry?
You complain to the carrier within 2 months of the scheduled sailing. The carrier must react within 1 month. A final reply comes no more than 2 months after your complaint arrives.
Does the Sami ferry ticket carry an access label?
Yes. The ferry listing shows Wheelchair accessible and Skip the line. It also shows a duration of 30 minutes for the crossing.
